VCU Students Win the Pitt Marquette Challenge

The VCU physical therapy students grabbed the top spot in this year’s Marquette Challenge by raising $34,327 for physical therapy research. Winning the challenge results in co-hosting the event for the coming year.

The students hosted multiple continuing education events, sporting events, percentage nights, and apparel orders to raise much of the money. Their final fundraising event was the annual golf tournament that was held on a beautiful spring day in April.

A handful of students attended NEXT in Chicago and celebrated the win at both the Foundation luncheon and later that evening at the final PT Party – an annual event hosted by the Foundation. They brought home the Challenge Chalice that is now proudly on display in our department trophy case.

We are so impressed with the students who worked as a team to make this happen. A special shout out to the Marquette Challenge chair for the department – Adrienne Lewis and golf tournament coordinators Kyle Hogwood and Jordan Witt. Adrienne managed the myriad of events and encouraged her classmates and community PT’s to participate. No doubt that Adrienne’s infectious enthusiasm helped propel the team to the win. Jordan and Kyle led the organization and execution of the golf tournament, an event that raised over $5000 of the total funds.

The department is celebrating the students big win and kicking off the VCU-Marquette Challenge with an end of the summer pool party in late August.
