Get involved

The Virginia Commonwealth University Department of Physical Therapy’s success is enhanced by the involvement of alumni and community partners and friends. Your contributions on any level help us achieve our goal of educating and graduating students who will serve as entry points into the health care system. Involvement is possible in a variety of ways, some of which are listed here.

Student recruitment

Alumni are ambassadors! Your professional and personal activities bring you into contact with talented people who may be excellent candidates for our program. By encouraging individuals to pursue a physical therapy career through VCU you help meet society’s health care needs while providing vital support to the department.

If you would like to learn more about how you can participate in student recruitment activities, contact Emma Wheeler at (804) 828-0234 or

Student internships

The VCU Doctor of Physical Therapy program requires 36 weeks of full time clinical education as well as numerous part-time clinical experiences during the academic semesters. Partnership with quality clinical sites is essential to support the rigorous level of training our students expect. Many of the clinical instructors at these sites are department alumni.

If you would like to learn more about how you or your facility can get involved in the department’s clinical education activities, please contact Dr. Emma Wheeler, PT, DPT, M.S. – Director of Clinical Education – at (804) 828-0234 or
